Ever wonder what to get a designer for Christmas? Or perhaps YOU’RE the designer and don’t know what to ask for? Well I’ve got a list of 10 fun gifts any designer would appreciate.
1. A subscription to Tuts+ Premium – $180/year
Tuts+ is great for free tutorials, but if you want to help the designer in your life advance even more? Get them a subscription to the Tuts+ Network for only $15/mo.
2. La Sardina camera – $60 – $200
I definitely have this on my Christmas list. There are tons of cameras you can choose from that fits anyone’s personality.
3. iPhone fisheye/macro/wide-angle – $70
Not into dragging around a camera? No problem. Attach this little beauty to your iPhone and you can instantly take your photographs to the next level.
4. iTunes gift card – any amount
Every designer loves music. End of story.
5. HOW Design Conference registration – $$$
I’ve always wanted to go to the HOW Design Conference, but it’s just so darn expensive. Have a large budget for the designer in your life? Give them the opportunity to go to San Francisco this June and meet tons of other designers and learn more than they can handle. Registration isn’t open, but that doesn’t mean you can’t give them an I.O.U.
6. Letterpress Now: A DIY Guide to New & Old Printing Methods – $12 (Pre-order on Amazon for early January)
Letterpress design is definitely going strong these days whether you’re doing posters or invitations. I haven’t actually heard anything about this particular book, but it looks pretty interesting. And who doesn’t love a DIY?
7. MacBook Pro – $1,200-$2,800
Need I say more?
8. Seagate External Hard Drive – $95
Have you ever thought “if I had only saved [this or that]!”…? I love my Seagate External Hard Drive. I’m able to store all my design files that I just can’t let go of. Plus, this sucker has 1 TB of space, how awesome is that? You’ll never run out of room.
9. Society6 Art Prints – $15+
I love this site for more than just their wall art. I recently ordered an iPhone case and absolutely love it. A few months ago I also ordered a few unique prints for my office at work and I received tons of compliments.
10. The Unemployed Philosopher’s Guild mugs – $13
They’ve got lots of unique gifts of this site. My personal favorite is the global warming mug (the coastlines disappear when the mug gets hot!).
BONUS: Knock Knock stocking stuffers. I know I already gave them a shout out in one of my previous posts, but I just think their stuff is hilarious. Check ’em out.
